The Long Green Season Begins

We start the long Season of Pentecost (June 10, Pentecost 2) with a funny look at a theological tragedy. The Genesis account of the fall is the subject of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Adam and Eve. Hopefully you will find some humor in it, if not.. well, there may be some enmity (bible word), I suppose.

Behold the mustard seed for Pentecost 3 (June 17), the smallest of all seeds becomes the greatest of shrubs… just like the kingdom of God, says Jesus. The Schneiderman Sisters (about whom I know absolutely nothing,) offer their nicely done cover of The Garden Song. This was a favorite of my late predecessor, Pastor Dave Drewes. The video is dedicated to his memory.

Inch by inch wolfies’ garden is growing and if you would like to help fertilize it, you can make a donation to St. John Lutheran Church, PO Box 206 Lithopolis, Ohio 43136. Tell them wolfie sent you.

The World’s Not So Bad

For Easter 7, May 20 an apology for the world. John 17 goes pretty hard on all things of the world, so I thought a little crooning from the Satchmo (Louis Armstrong) would help balance things out a bit. What a Wonderful World.

The world is also the place Where the Spirit of the Lord Is. The Pentecost (May 27) offering from Chris Tomlin, features freedom in the Spirit.

And just in case you forget whose world this really is, for the Sunday of the Holy Trinity, Peder Eide’s This is My Father’s World.

Video are free for use in worship. If you would like to make a donation please send it to St. John Lutheran Church, PO Box 206 Lithopolis, Ohio 43136. Tell em wolfie sent you.

Children of God

For Sunday, May 13 (Easter 6) and Mother’s Day to boot, a focus on the second reading from 1 John. ‘Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the parent loves the child.” “Children of God” by Daniel Renstrom is the offering. I don’t know much about Daniel, but he sings well, and for wolfie, that’s enough.

Videos are free for use. Welcome to First English Lutheran Church, Ashville, Ohio who is now a regular wolfieproductions.com user. What the heck, if you use this week’s video, send a donation there: 94 Long Street, Ashville, Ohio 43103. Tell them wolfie sent you.

Easter

For Easter 3 to accompany the Luke 24 text, Caedmon’s Call’s Beautiful Mystery. The band’s unusual name was inspired by Cædmon, an Anglo-Saxon cow-herd who lived during the 7th century. Legend has it that Caedmon was afraid to sing in public due to a lack of musical talent, and shied away from occasions where he had to sing. After leaving a feast one night because he was too embarrassed to sing, he lay down in the pasture with the cattle to sleep. An angel appeared to him in a dream, calling him to sing. After refusing, he eventually decided to sing and when he did, he sang beautiful verses that had never been heard before, based on the story of creation and using the style of pre-Christian, Anglo-Saxon poetry. Founding band members Cliff, Danielle, and Aaron decided on the name “Caedmon’s Call” after all three heard this story during the same week and thought it was fitting.

For Easter 4, Good Shepherd Sunday, a video presentation of the Gospel text John 10:11-18.

For Easter 5, and the second reading from 1 John, Jars of Clay’s new twist on an old favorite, They Will Know We Are Christians by Our Love.

Easter Joy/Easter Doubt

The risen Christ (Maybery)

For the Resurrection of Jesus (Easter Sunday) April, 8 is offered the familiar and traditional, with a twist. Page CXVI seems like an unusual name for a band, but that’s OK, because they’re a pretty unusual band. They rework classic Christian hymns for a contemporary audience, then play their pieces in homes and churches across the country. Page CXVI is a reference to page 116 in a C.S. Lewis book (a passage where Aslan sings in Narnia).

And for the Sunday after Easter, April 15, when the crowds have thinned and perhaps too, the resolve, the confession of a Doubting ThomasNickel Creek was an American progressive acoustic music trio consisting of Chris Thile (mandolin), Sara Watkins (fiddle) and Sean Watkins (guitar).Th e band was founded in 1989 and released 6 albums between 1993 and 2006. In 2003 they received a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album and disbanded in 2007 to pursue other musical projects.

Passion and Palms

For the Sunday of the Passion/Palm Sunday.

The passion part, inspired by Isaiah 51: The Servant Song sung by the Maranatha Singers. The group was formed out the so-called “Jesus-freak” movement of the mid 1970’s and now 40 years later, they don’t seem so freaky anymore..” Too bad.

And for the palm part: The Sowetto Gospel Choir sings Hosanna. The choir was formed in Soweto, South Africa by David Mulovhedzi and Beverly Bryer. The 30+ member ensemble blends elements of African gospel, Negro spirituals, reggae, and American popular music. The group performed several concerts for Nelson Mandela, and has toured internationally several times. Their albums Blessed and African Spirit won a Grammy Award for Best Traditional World Music Album in 2007 and 2008 respectively.
